The film, which is a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster “Godzilla vs. Kong,” follows the aftermath of the titanic battle that left both Kong and Godzilla wounded and weary. But their rivalry is not the only threat they face, as a new enemy emerges from the depths of the earth, one that could endanger the balance of nature and the fate of humanity.

The trailer, which was released on February 14, 2024, gives us a glimpse of the new menace that awaits the two legendary creatures. The trailer opens with a voice-over saying, “We thought we knew them. We thought we understood them. We were wrong.” We then see a series of shots that show the devastation caused by the new foe, which appears to be a massive, winged, reptilian beast with glowing red eyes and a fiery breath. The trailer also reveals that the new enemy has a connection to the ancient history of the Titans, and that it may be part of a larger plan to unleash a new empire of monsters.

The trailer also shows us some familiar faces, such as Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, a Kong expert who works for Monarch, the organization that studies the Titans; Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, a conspiracy theorist and former Monarch employee who teams up with Madison Russell, the daughter of Mark and Emma Russell, who were prominent Monarch scientists in the previous films; and Kaylee Hottle as Jia, a young deaf girl who has a special bond with Kong. We also see some new characters, such as Dan Stevens as Dr. Nathan Lind, a geologist and adventurer who joins Monarch’s mission to explore the Hollow Earth, the mysterious realm beneath the surface where the Titans originate; Alex Ferns as Walter Simmons, a ruthless billionaire and the CEO of Apex, a rival corporation that has a sinister agenda involving the Titans; and Fala Chen as Dr. Ling, a geneticist and Lind’s former colleague who also works for Apex.

The trailer also features some spectacular scenes of Kong and Godzilla in action, as they face off against the new enemy and each other. We see Kong wielding a giant axe made from a dorsal plate of another Titan, presumably one of Godzilla’s ancestors; Godzilla unleashing his atomic breath and roaring in defiance; and the new enemy soaring in the sky and breathing fire. The trailer ends with a tagline that says, “The guardians of nature. The protectors of humanity. The rise of a new empire.”

The film is directed by Adam Wingard, who also helmed “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and who has expressed his passion and enthusiasm for the Monsterverse. In an interview with Collider, he said, “I’ve always been a huge fan of these characters, and I wanted to do justice to them and their legacy. I also wanted to make a film that was fun, exciting, and emotional, and that would appeal to both fans and newcomers alike.”

The film is also written by a team of talented screenwriters, including Terry Rossio, who co-wrote the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series and the original “Godzilla vs. Kong” script; Simon Barrett, who collaborated with Wingard on horror films such as “You’re Next” and “The Guest”; and Jeremy Slater, who created the acclaimed Marvel series “Moon Knight.” The film is based on the character “Godzilla” owned and created by TOHO Co., Ltd, the Japanese company that produced the original Godzilla films since 1954.

The film is produced by Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the Monsterverse franchise, which began with “Godzilla” in 2014, followed by “Kong: Skull Island” in 2017, and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” in 2019. The film is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, except in Japan, where it is distributed by Toho Co., Ltd, and in mainland China, where it is distributed by Legendary East.

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is set to hit theaters and IMAX on March 29, 2024, and will be the fifth and final film in the Monsterverse saga. The film is expected to be a huge box office success, as the previous films have grossed over $2 billion worldwide. The film is also expected to be a critical hit, as the trailer has received positive feedback from fans and critics alike, who praised its stunning visuals, thrilling action, and intriguing plot.

If you are a fan of giant monsters, epic battles, and cinematic spectacle, you won’t want to miss “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” It is the ultimate monster mash-up that will leave you breathless and amazed. Don’t miss it, only in theaters March 29. #GodzillaXKong
